Ways to Jump Start Your Metabolism
If you have just started trying to lose weight, there are a few things you can do to help jump start your metabolism.
Believe it or not, studies show that eating a breakfast with a lot of fat in it can help speed up your metabolism. So go ahead and have your bacon and eat it too. Just don't go too crazy. And keep your overall calorie intake in mind. Don't have such a large breakfast that you will have to just graze all day and not be able to eat a real lunch or dinner.
Try drinking some green tea or coffee. The caffeine in coffee helps speed up metabolism and those that drink caffeinated coffee have a 16% higher metabolism than those that don't. Green tea has been shown to help people lose weight and drinking 3 to 5 cups of green tea a day can help you lose up to 5% of your weight.
Eat plenty of dairy foods. Foods high in calcium help increase the rate at which fat is turned into waste. So drink plenty of milk and eat lots of cheese and yogurt. Just make sure they're all low fat.
There is some evidence that suggests drinking ice cold water may help raise metabolism due to the fact that your body has to work harder to maintain a core temperature of 98 degrees.
Start building some muscle. It won't just help you look better, it will also help you burn calories and keep weight off. Muscle tissue uses more energy than fat tissue. So your body will burn more calories even at rest simply because it has muscle.
Make sure you're eating enough. If you cut calories make sure you're still eating at least between 1,200 and 1,500 calories a day. If you dip below 1,200, your body will think it's in starvation mode and your metabolism will slow down drastically.
