Ways to Jump Start Your Metabolism

If you have just started trying to lose weight, there are a few things you can do to help jump start your metabolism.

Believe it or not, studies show that eating a breakfast with a lot of fat in it can help speed up your metabolism. So go ahead and have your bacon and eat it too. Just don't go too crazy. And keep your overall calorie intake in mind. Don't have such a large breakfast that you will have to just graze all day and not be able to eat a real lunch or dinner.

Try drinking some green tea or coffee. The caffeine in coffee helps speed up metabolism and those that drink caffeinated coffee have a 16% higher metabolism than those that don't. Green tea has been shown to help people lose weight and drinking 3 to 5 cups of green tea a day can help you lose up to 5% of your weight.

Eat plenty of dairy foods. Foods high in calcium help increase the rate at which fat is turned into waste. So drink plenty of milk and eat lots of cheese and yogurt. Just make sure they're all low fat.

There is some evidence that suggests drinking ice cold water may help raise metabolism due to the fact that your body has to work harder to maintain a core temperature of 98 degrees.

Start building some muscle. It won't just help you look better, it will also help you burn calories and keep weight off. Muscle tissue uses more energy than fat tissue. So your body will burn more calories even at rest simply because it has muscle.

Make sure you're eating enough. If you cut calories make sure you're still eating at least between 1,200 and 1,500 calories a day. If you dip below 1,200, your body will think it's in starvation mode and your metabolism will slow down drastically.

I've lost a bit weight myself and have found dandelion tea with juice of 1/2 a lemon or small grapefruit and a teaspoon of organic raw honey (Not the stuff from the supermarket, from a health food or organics shop, needs to be raw). Drink 3-5 cups a day, you'll be really surprised how quick this one works, can drink 3 cups a day long term like this. This also seems to make me quite chipper and happy.

I've never heard of doing that. I'll have to try it sometime. I love tea but I've actually never had dandelion tea. Thanks for the tip. :)

This article is a little confused. You see, fat isn't actually bad for you!! Your brain needs fat to survive. enjoy everything full fat, as long as it is a healthy fat like avocados, or oils such as coconut and olive!

Starving your body of fat like all these mainstream diets say to, won't get you anywhere!

Not to mention, dairy isn't all that great for you. Sure, calcium is, but our bodies aren't meant to drink cows milk. They don't truly know how to break it down and put that calcium to use. If anything, dairy just causes inflammation and mucus build up. Look it up!

I don't eat breakfast...never have. I just don't feel like eating for several hours after waking up. I do drink a cup of coffee with a little milk in it. Is this enough to keep my metabolism up? I do not have any problem with crashing or feeling hungry or even binge eating later in the day. I am over 40 now and just wondering if my nonbreakfast habit is actually hurting me.
